May Songwriting Challenge- Day 25: Down a Backroad
So this is another one that will probably get a re-write,
simply because Layton mentioned that he liked the idea and might want to play
it out. That means that we will throw-back to the good ole days of us writing
for him to perform, so this may not be anywhere close to the final product, but
I’ve been itching to write this for a few weeks now, so I’m getting it off of
my chest.
Down a Backroad

V1:
Ridin’ on a cloud of dust, cruisin’ around the bend
Windows down, some old George Jones on the FM
Sunset of pinks and reds, just beyond corn rows
Ice clinkin, glass of sweet tea, in the console
CH:
The sound of a John Deere cranking off in the distance
With miles of nothing but fields, barb wire fence
Until you reach those small-town limits, wave at everyone
you know
There’s nothing like a water tower to say “welcome home”
Yeah, I’ll find my heaven down a backroad
V2:
They’re holding daily service, at the church of Christ
That front pew, reserved for me, yeah, my hands up high
The smell of cornbread, green beans and fried chicken
Dinner bell ringing from momma’s kitchen
CH:
The sound of a John Deere cranking off in the distance
With miles of nothing but fields, barb wire fence
Until you reach those small-town limits, wave at everyone
you know
There’s nothing like a water tower to say “welcome home”
Yeah, I’ll find my heaven down a backroad
BR:
Clouds light as granny’s biscuits
Dot the endless blue skies
Yeah, that’ my paradise
CH:
The sound of a John Deere cranking off in the distance
With miles of nothing but fields, barb wire fence
Until you reach those small-town limits, wave at everyone
you know
There’s nothing like a water tower to say “welcome home”
Yeah, I’ll find my heaven down a backroad
