May Songwriting Challenge- Day 12: Waves

Well, to tell the truth, I gave up on writing tonight about half an hour ago. Today was supposed to be “catch-up writing day” …and that didn’t happen. I’ve still been a worried dog mom, pampering my little guy and giving him almost as much attention as he thinks he needs (he believes that he needs all the attention, all the time).  So, after staring at a screen, typing, deleting, typing, deleting, typing and deleting, I decided that maybe it really wasn’t my month to write a song a day. Plus, The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes DVD that I ordered on eBay came in, so I was super pumped to watch it. After closing my computer, I hopped in the shower, ready to get in and out and start the movie before my honey fell asleep. Then, completely out of the blue, I started humming “I need more than waves, than something that swells and breaks”. Before I had washed the conditioner out of my hair, I had the chorus finished and luckily Aaron had already passed out so instead of starting the movie, I plopped down on the couch in my towel-toga glory and started typing away. Just for the record, y’all…the girl who tries to write love songs on a regular basis but fails miserably just pulled this song about love together in half an hour.

V1:
For quite a while now, we’ve been afloat
On this round n round, up n down, back and forth boat
Leaving our future, our faith with the tide
Enduring the lows, enjoying the highs

I know for a fact where my compass points
But I worry that yours is just spinning, Boy
Tell me this love could be something great
‘Cause I’m tired of passion that ripples and fades

CH:
I need more than waves
Than something that swells and breaks
When it hits the reef
Give me dark water deep
To take a breath and dive
Beyond the surface light
Sink or swim, whatever it takes
I need more than waves

V2:
I’ve said goodnight to another sunset
No closer to knowing where this journey ends
I’ve stared the horizon, looked to the stars
Followed the map to a T, but so far

It’s brought more questions, I’m too scared to ask
Don’t want to shake things on our little raft
But the truth, it comes swirling like a hurricane
There’s more to love than just playing it safe

CH:
I need more than waves
Than something that swells and breaks
When it hits the reef
Give me dark water deep
To take a breath and dive
Beyond the surface light
Sink or swim, whatever it takes
I need more than waves

BR:
Come on, let’s lose sight of the shore
I know we can find, something more, something more

CH:
I need more than waves
Than something that swells and breaks
When it hits the reef
Give me dark water deep
To take a breath and dive
Beyond the surface light
Sink or swim, whatever it takes

I need more than waves
Than something that swells and breaks
When it hits the reef
Give me dark water deep
To take a breath and dive
Beyond the surface light
Sink or swim, whatever it takes
I need more than waves
