May Songwriting Challenge- Day 6: Have You Ever Heard A Song
As I mentioned in my earlier post, I tackled two songs today due to skipping yesterday’s write. -Aaron and I were talking about writing a few weeks ago. I was going through my little list of pet peeves in writing and personal OCD rules, and he made fun of me. I don’t recall exactly what we were talking about but I said that you “can’t” do X in writing and he asked me “have you ever heard a song?” He went through a list of songs that broke my personal “rule”, but my mind was already wandering through what he had said previously. “Have you ever heard a song?” I jotted that line down in my May challenge notebook, and decided to write on it today. To be honest, I prefer my earlier write, but at least this one is done and I’ve added another song to my challenge!

Have you ever heard a song, one that spoke
To your heart, like a call from home
A melody to right all wrong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Memories, through the FM waves
Recalling note for note
A certain time, a certain place
A fire in your soul
Three minutes of pure freedom
Three minutes of release
Looking deep inside the rhythm
To find a glimpse of peace
Have you ever heard a song, one that spoke
To your heart, like a call from home
A melody to right all wrong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Have you ever heard a song, one that gave
You the wings to fly away
To somewhere where you belong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Drop a needle on the vinyl
While your mind spins round and round
The popping and the crackle
There’s nothing like the sound
Of feeling bullet proof
Falling in and out of love
The blessing and the curse in truth
Yeah turn it up, turn it up
Have you ever heard a song, one that spoke
To your heart, like a call from home
A melody to right all wrong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Have you ever heard a song, one that gave
You the wings to fly away
To somewhere where you belong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Up by the stage, feel the bass, down in your bones
Lost in the back beat, lyrics, guitar solos
Have you ever heard a song, one that spoke
To your heart, like a call from home
A melody to right all wrong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Have you ever heard a song, one that gave
You the wings to fly away
To somewhere where you belong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
Have you ever heard a song, one that spoke
To your heart, like a call from home
A melody to right all wrong
Have you ever heard a song, ever heard a song
