May Songwriting Challenge- 18: The Wrong Redneck
I’ve fallen behind again, as you can see. I actually almost finished my Friday write, just forgot to post it. On Saturday we went to the Tennessee Renaissance Festival and I was super tired when we got home, so I crashed, and on Sunday I put together a garden on our patio, so I hit the hay early again. Yesterday? Well, yesterday I went to my truck and found it had been broken into and rummaged through overnight. Frankly, I felt violated and depressed, so last night was just about relaxing. However, something okay came from being robbed…the second verse in this song.

V1A:
This city livin’ is far from home
No this ain’t the life I want
But I’m making the best of this
Now, I know it’s a melting pot
We call come from dif’rent walks
So I keep to my own business
V1B:
But for the last two weeks, neighbor let their dog
Do its thing on my front lawn
That messy morning stroll put me over the edge
Took some ingenuity
Now her crime ‘s for all to see
Posted ‘round our housing complex
CH:
You done messed with the wrong redneck
We’ve got short fuses and trail cams
You done messed with the wrong redneck
Bet you’ll never do that again
V2A:
I guess I must’ve spaced
Forgot to lock my truck one day
Y’all prob’ly guess where this story leads
Boom, there went my rainy-day stash
Left everything torn up and trash
They needed a lesson, I was there to teach
V2B:
Waited a month or so
Camped in the back, wouldn’t you know
‘Round midnight, there opened my door
Things were different this time
Peeked through the seats with my 45
Doubt that kid’d seen mossy oak before
CH:
You done messed with the wrong redneck
We’re armed with grudges and camouflage
You done messed with the wrong redneck
Some lines should never be crossed
BR:
‘Fore you pull a fast one, you best think twice
We’ve got the law of the land and the Good Lord on our side
CH:
Y’all don’t mess with the wrong redneck
We tend to go all vigilante
No don’t don’t mess with the wrong redneck
Unless your ready for our back woods philosophy
