May Songwriting Challenge- Days 11,13,14: Dancing With Demons (3 Ways)

So, I guess it’s time for a progress report on this songwriting challenge. As everyone can see, I’ve fallen a wee bit behind, but I’m working on getting caught up. Slowly, but surely, I’m lowering my personal standards and just getting the numbers in. Next month will definitely be all about re-writing! I decided to try a different exercise tonight…this is “One Song, Three Ways”! I wasn’t sure how I wanted to approach this concept, and kept bouncing back and forth, so I am going to write three different versions around my chorus! Maybe I’ll end up actually liking one of them!

V1:
I’ve seen the signs, they might as well be
Carved into stone, ragged and deep
All laid out hidden, hidden in plain view
Yeah those empty bottles, are just filled with proof

CH:
He’s dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swears that they’ll free him
Rescue his soul
Keeps all his vices
In close company
He’s dancing with demons
And letting them lead

V2:
My friends have warned, it’s time to leave
But love makes you do, the craziest things
Like ignore the numbers, buzzin’ his phone
And just burning candles when he smells of smoke

CH:
He’s dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swears that they’ll free him
Rescue his soul
Keeps all his vices
In close company
He’s dancing with demons
And letting them lead

BR:
I’ve told myself it’s worth it, over and again
But with each day, my faith, is dwindlin’

CH:
He’s dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swears that they’ll free him
Rescue his soul
Keeps all his vices
In close company
He’s dancing with demons
And letting them lead

Woo-hoo! I’m one version down, two to go! Let’s not dilly-dally!

V1:
Caught at the bottom, of a slippery slope
Out of answers, yeah I’m out of hope
Spinning round and round, in this whirlwind
Just when I think I’ve found my way out, I fall back in

CH:
Yeah I’m dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue my soul
Yeah, I keep all my vices
In close company
I’m dancing with demons
And letting them lead

V2:
Stumbling home, with smoke on my breath
Empty bottle in hand, lipstick on my neck
Wish I had the strength, to just walk away
But that song, goes on and on, it plays and plays and plays

CH:
Yeah, I’m dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue my soul
I keep all my vices
In close company
I’m dancing with demons
And letting them lead

BR:
Maybe the good lord, will keep me in mind
And I’ll fin’ly escape, but no, not today, they’ve got me on the line

CH:
 I’m dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue my soul
Yeah, I keep all my vices
In close company
I’m dancing with demons
And letting them lead

I keep all my vices
In close company
I’m dancing with demons
And letting them lead

Yeah, I’m dancing with demons,
They won’t let me leave

Okay, last one of the exercise! This will be a third person version!

V1:
She’s seen the signs, but just tries to ignore
That look in his eyes, she’s seen times before
He’s stumbles in, smoke on his breath
A smeared stain, lip stick on his neck

CH:
Yeah, he’s dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue his soul
Yeah, he keeps all his vices
In close company
He’s dancing with demons
And letting them lead

V2:
She keeps a secret, around eighty-proof
Tucked in her nightstand, for their rendezvous
The entire office, knows but won’t talk
All looking away, when the two sneak off

CH:
Yeah, she’s dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue her soul
Yeah, she keeps her vices
In close company
She’s dancing with demons
And letting them lead

BR:
Only one thing in common, one thing they share
Both afraid of walking away, both too numb to care

CH:
They’re dancing with demons
Lights down low
Swear they taste of freedom
Can rescue their souls
Yeah, they keep all their vices
In close company
They’re dancing with demons

And letting them lead
