Hollywood

I got this idea a while ago. However, it has changed a bit since I thought about it. I always wear rhinestone shades, and one day at work, one of the guys started calling me "Hollywood" and I've wanted to write a song about that nickname ever since. But I wanted it to be different. Since a lot of the songs about Hollywood are about fame and fortune, I decided to go the other route and talk about how life never goes how you plan. Especially when you're a seventeen year old girl in a small town looking for a way out. So, I came up with a story about a girl nicknamed "Hollywood" who learns this lesson the hard way. Music to come. Enjoy.

She grew up in a little town
With one stop-light, leading in and out
Everybody knew she wanted to leave
She walked to school in her rhinestone shades
Countin' down the days
Until she turned eighteen

They call her Hollywood, down at the diner
Where she's waitin' tables, and waitin' for the time
That she'll find out fast her Pontiac can go
Everyone tells her to give it some thought
Before she just up and takes off
But you can't tell her a thing she doesn't already know

'Cause she's seventeen goin' on thirty-five
Feel's like life is passin' her by
She's convinced all her dreams and hopes
Are hidin' somewhere on the west coast
She won't listen to anyone
When they say "I know where you're comin' from
Take a minute, maybe you should
Slow down Hollywood"

She met him on a weekend trip
To the big city and that was it
She had everything figured out
They've already set a date
It's only been six months, but she cant wait
To be with the man she dreamed about

'Cause she's seventeen goin' on thirty-five
Feels like life is passin' her by
But as soon as she takes his name
Everything is gonna change
She won't listen to anyone
When they say "I know where you're comin from
Take a minute, maybe you should
Just slow down Hollywood"

Their love burned out like a cigarette
Last week he packed up and left
Her with an apartment in Arkansas and a worthless ring
Now she's worried about June
'Cause that's when her daughter is due
And before she knows it, her little girl is gonna be

Seventeen going on thirty-five
Feelin' like life is passing her by
She'll be convinced all her dreams and hopes
Are hiding somewhere on the west coast
She's not gonna listen to her mom
When she says "I know where you're comin' from
Take a minute, maybe you should
Just slow down Hollywood"

Slow down Hollywood

They call her Hollywood, down at the diner
She's waitin' tables, and waitin' for the time
That she'll find out how fast her Pontiac can go
