He's on His Way
since 1942"
"But he's on his way
He'll be here soon
Yeah every night I pray
That God will pull him through
They say he's lost
And can't be saved
But I know
He's on his way
Just then those wrinkles
Got a little tight
As she looked down at that ring
A single tear fell from her eye
She said "right before he boarded the bus
He got down on one knee
and promised he would be back
To marry me"
"He's on his way
He'll be here soon
Yeah, every night I pray
That God will pull him thorugh
They say he's lost
And can't be saved
But I know
He's on his way"
A few weeks later
She didn't come to church
I had to sit down
When I got the word
That's why I'm here this mornin'
To lay a flower on her grave
It's right next to a stone
That's marked "M.I.A"
I should probably feel sad
But I don't
Yeah, I can't help but smile
'Cause I know
| At RCA Studio B |
So, day three of my Nashville trip. I'm taking it easy today. To be honest, I'm still a little high on life from yesterday. After visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and RCA Studio B, I went down to the Pancake Pantry, which I highly recommend. I just had the Buttermilk pancakes and they were phenomenal. Afterwards I visited the Parthenon, which was also very cool. Then I decided that, since it was such a nice day, I would go for a stroll down music row. While walking, I came across Bobby's and went inside to sit down and relax for a second. I met some amazing people there. I met a publicist, an aspiring musician, an Australian who gave me his number, and a really cool bartender. I didn't even have to drink to have a good time. I sat there with my ice water and just got to know people. It was a really unique experience.

While I was sitting at Bobby's, talking to the folks there, I decided at the last minute to try to score some Opry tickets. They had some left so I reserved the seats and headed back to the motel to get ready. When I got to the opry and got my tickets, the lady told me "Section 5, Row A" ... well, I had never been to the Opry before so I had no idea where I was sitting. It turns out that my seat was about 15' from the stage. I was able to sit on the center stage steps of the Opry stage to take pictures. I was blown away listening to Ricky Skaggs, Ralph Stanley, Bill Anderson, Little Jimmy Dickens, Josh Turner (who is even cuter in person, by the way), and Kenny Rogers. While taking pictures, I was only a few feet from some amazing musicians. It was an experience that I will never forget.

So when I woke up this morning, I was feeling truly inspired. I got on here to finish a blog that I began yesterday morning but I couldn't find the words. So, I grabbed my guitar and sat on the sofa with a hotel note-pad. I started thinking about what I wanted to write today. I wanted to write something that would move a listener. I may be a bit biased, but as I wrote the bridge, I got a little choked up for a second.
I have added the audio link as well. Now, just to warn everyone, this is the first time I've composed/recorded any of my material. I'm pretty sure that my guitar was out of tune, and I have no idea if I am in the right key. So bear with me a little. I will re-record this sometime when I get more used to the idea of playing and singing at the same time. So, for your enjoyment, "He's on His Way"

I see her every sunday
In the second row
There's an empty seat beside her
But she's always alone
So one mornin' I asked
"Can I join you on this pew"
She said "I'm sorry sweetie, but this seat's been savedsince 1942"
"But he's on his way
He'll be here soon
Yeah every night I pray
That God will pull him through
They say he's lost
And can't be saved
But I know

She's on her way
She'll see him soon
She'll walk through those gates
To a waitin' groom
Soon they'll be dancin'
Yeah I can hear the music play
She's on her way
Now I sit here every sunday
In the second row
There are two empty seats beside me
But I'm not alone
