Red Wine and Vinyl Records
Since moving to Nashville, the creative juices have definitely been flowing…however they’ve been accompanied by my songwriting ADD. I have my little notebook with a half-dozen pages that have been started, but I haven’t really set aside any time to finish them. Yesterday I decided to carve out a little time to write and tune the world out for a bit. Luckily the sun was shining and it was warm outside. Seeing that Aaron was working on some brewing research and getting frustrated with the dogs jumping around, I took my boys down to the patio, enjoyed some master distiller Jack, and told myself that I was going to finish the first incomplete page in my book. Flipping through, I came across the hook written across the top; “Red Wine & Vinyl Records”. I remembered the night that I first thought about writing the tune. I had a rough week at work (this transition from seasoned veteran to new kid on the block has been an adjustment, to say the least), and I’d stopped by the local liquor store, only to be surprised by the fact that it was wine-tasting night. After a few samples and some light-hearted conversation about music, I drove home, planning to return in a few weeks for a bottle of pinot noir, and thinking about how I just needed to keep a nice bottle of wine on hand to help de-stress after work, and how nice it would be to buy a record player and listen to classic country with all the pops and cracks of the vinyl. I’d decided on my opening lines before I reached the apartment complex and jotted them down but never really committed to completing it. But yesterday, with my trusty dogs by my side and some whiskey in my glass, I told myself I was done being lazy with it!
I have an idea for music but, let’s be honest, Aaron is way better than I am with melodies so hopefully he can work his magic on this one sometime!

V1:
Rough week ‘s an understatement, tough break a downright lie
I’m through with wishful thinkin’, some stars just won’t align
I worked hard to climb the ladder, found it’s a hamster wheel
And I’m going nowhere faster than a death-row runner out of appeals
Well, since I’m caught up in this hole
Might as well find a way to soothe my soul
CH:
I need a red wine and vinyl records, night so I can forget
The struggle, the pressure, dance around say “the hell with it”
Don’t need no self-help guru to make my life feel better
Just a corkscrew, three chords, the truth
Red wine and vinyl records
V2:
I know there’s bigger problems, all corners of this earth
Won’t act like I can solve ‘em, but hey y’all, for what it’s worth
Sometimes you’ll find your center, in a spinning 45
And the best therapy is, of the long stem kind
CH:
You need a red wine and vinyl records, night so you can forget
The struggle, the pressure, dance around say “the hell with it”
Don’t need no self-help guru to make your life feel better
Just a corkscrew, three chords, the truth
Red wine and vinyl records
BR:
So take a break, step back
Turn it up and raise your glass
CH:
For a red wine and vinyl records, night so you can forget
The struggle, the pressure, dance around say “the hell with it”
Don’t need no self-help guru to make your life feel better
Just a corkscrew, three chords, the truth
Red wine and vinyl records
Just a corkscrew, three chords, the truth
