Down The Drain Part II
So I wrote a lyric called "Down The Drain" in March of 2012. I have no idea where I got the inspiration from to be completely honest. And to be completely honest, I'd forgotten all about it. But a few weeks ago, as I went through my "Lyric" folder, I opened it up just to refresh my memory. I'd been working on a new idea, and was getting nowhere, so I thought "what the heck, I'll take a stab at this one again." So I grabbed the trusty Taylor and stuck my capo on the third fret and just started a little finger picking to get in the mood. Obviously, this was going to be kind of a dark and edgy tune, seeing that the story is about an alcoholic who goes out every night and buys a bottle of whiskey, but when he returns to his empty home, the memory of his ex-wife/ex-girlfriend leaving him because of his addiction is too much for him to handle, so he pours the whiskey ...dun dun duuun... Down The Drain. And he's watching his life slip away, yada yada yada.
So I started humming, started strumming and twenty minutes later....I was almost a little excited about it. This is not a modern country song, by any means. And this will never get cut because it's way too dark and depressing. The rhymes are too simple and the music is too boring. But it was still a fun one to finish and add to my "drinking my life away, this world is miserable, you cheater, I like to party, that dirty whore, I like bad boys, I really like to party" set list.
So here are the revised lyrics, and the mp3 is on the widget to the left. If you do not have a browser capable of supporting the widget, you can take a listen on my Reverbnation , it should be the second song on the playlist. Feel free to Fan me on Reverbnation or Follow my Blog. I don't send out any emails. The only reason I might would be if I actually...someday...possibly...book a gig somewhere. But if you know me, you know I'm not the biggest fan of playing out, so that's unlikely to say the least.

Drain

An
unopened bottle
In a brown
paper sack
He shuffles
through the door
Swears it
will be the last
Even though
he knows inside
The promise
he just made
It’s going
down the drain
His head
starts to spin
As the night
presses on
Each second
lasts for hours
But he’s too
far gone
To even care
about the time
‘Cause since
she drove away
It’s been going down the drain
Yeah the
kitchen smells of whiskey
But he
hasn’t had a drop
‘Cause in
his heart, she’s still cryin'
Beggin’ him to stop
So he stands
at the sink
Drowning his
pain
Watching
everything go down the drain
In ev’ry ounce a mem’ry
Laced with
regret
Knowing that his demons
Were the
reasons she left
Still there’s a
part of him
That wants another taste
But he pours it down the drain
Yeah the
kitchen smells of whiskey
But he
hasn’t had a drop
‘Cause in
his heart, she’s still cryin'
Beggin’ him to stop
So he stands
at the sink
Drowning his
pain
Watching everything go down the drain
